Mama Makes Books with love x
Love of children, of books and of the planet.
Founder and Publisher
I have been creating children's books as an editor, writer and packager for 30 years. I started my career at Orchard Books. It was an amazing apprenticeship, and I've been learning ever since, working for top UK publishing houses and with many inspiring publishing professionals, authors and artists. As a mum and grandma, my passion for children's books has magnified. All I want to do is create books that children will love and learn from, and to continue to work with good people. My ambitions for Mama Makes Books is to be a company that values physical books and the talented people who create them, and one that cares meaningfully about the welfare of our children and our planet.
Graham is, in his own words, 'a highly underestimated talent', but the only person who underestimates him is himself. He was the well-respected Design Manager at Ticktock Publishing before going freelance in 2008. He is a perfectionist and his talents include old-school knowledge of typography and print processes, skilled draughtsmanship, and a meticulous eye for detail. He is unflappable and unfailingly good humoured.
Mollie is a media and communications student, and her increasing knowledge and skills, along with her youth, have become invaluable to Mama Makes Books. She helps with all things web and social media, and creates content using her excellent skills in photography and video creation.
UK Sales Agent
Chris runs Bang The Drum, a freelance publishing sales consultancy that represents a number of UK independent children's publishers. Well known in the UK trade, Chris has been selling children's titles for top UK publishers for over 30 years.

In July 2012, she took a big leap and started her own sales agency, which has grown sales for a collection of small but perfectly formed publishers.
Rachel started in publishing at Victoria House Publishing (part of Reader's Digest) followed by eight years at Pinwheel, during which time she was International Sales Manager for the group formed by the acquisition of Andromeda Oxford and Gullane. In 2008, Rachel set up Capricorn International Rights. She speaks fluent German and French.
Aby started in publishing with Imagine That and was responsible for rights sales there for 12 years.
In 2010 she set up her own agency, AbyBooks, and has been supporting small publishers with their rights business since.
