GADGETEERS GET READY!

GADGETEERS GET READY! 〰️

The Summer Reading Challenge is here again in partnership with libraries to provide lots of fun for children aged 4 to 11 while helping to prevent the summer reading ‘dip’. For those of you who don’t know about it, the Challenge is to read six or more library books and there are stickers and other rewards for every book read. Children who complete the challenge receive a medal and a certificate. It’s the UK’s biggest free reading for pleasure programme with 700,000 children take part each year.

Produced by The Reading Agency, this year’s Challenge theme, Gadgeteers, inspires children to use their curiosity and creativity to discover the science behind the everyday, and celebrate the role of the imagination in both reading and the sciences.

The Challenge runs throughout the summer holidays across the UK. This year, the Challenge begins in Scotland and Northern Ireland on Saturday 25 June, and in England and Wales on Saturday 9 July.

Here’s how it works…

• Children can join via their local library, where they can borrow books, attend events, and collect free incentives and rewards. They can also sign up via the Reading Agency website https://summerreadingchallenge.org.uk where they can create their own profile, rate and review books, download activities, and access video content, games and quizzes.

• The Science Museum and Illustrator Julian Beresford have created the free packs available at the library and to download on the website, where six fictional Gadgeteers use their curiosity and wonder to understand the science behind a whole range of interests from fashion and technology to cooking and music.

● The libraries have a specially curated collection of 67 books that children can choose from, including our very own The Most Important Animal of All. There’s something for everyone, regardless of tastes, age or reading ability. Many of the books are new books and some are available in additional formats. In Wales, there will also be Welsh language books.

●  Each time they finish a book, they collect incentives and can add it to their online profile and write a review.

●  Families are encouraged to join in with downloadable activities, games, quizzes and more. With new content to enjoy each week, the fun will continue throughout the summer to keep families engaged.

●  Children receive a certificate and medal from their library once they’ve completed their challenge, or download an online certificate.

BUT THAT’S NOT ALL…

The Most Important Animal of All has also been chosen by Sky for a very special Sky VIP Promotion to support the Summer Reading Challenge. If you’re a Sky member, you can enter via the App or the website. Simply select which library you would like to pick up your FREE copy when your child signs up for the Summer Reading Challenge.

We are so thrilled to be involved in these brilliant initiatives. As a small independent publisher, to know that our book is going to be a part of so many children’s reading journeys this summer is very exciting!
