About the book

This is Tom Lehrer who Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter) called “the cleverest, funniest man of the 20th century”. He is so clever that he went to study maths at Harvard, a top university in the United States, when he was only 15 years old. He loves maths so much he wrote a song about it and that is the inspiration for this book. See him performing the song below.

This is Chris Smith, Scottish teacher and fellow lover of maths and music. Chris performed Lehrer’s song on YouTube with a stellar group of mathematicians, with Chris playing the piano (video below). That was the catalyst for this book and Chris has contributed fun ideas to try and challenges to do together.

This is Elina Braslina, Latvian illustrator and film-maker. Elina has brought the song to life with her vibrant, lively scenes based on the maths themes in the book. She has created a busy world of children and animals enjoying activities that involve maths. As an homage to Lehrer, Chris asked Elina to put him in the book. Can you find him?
